The problem

People looking for emotional support face scattered resources: articles, meditation apps, therapy platforms, self-help tools. It’s hard to know what you need, where to start, or what actually helps. The result is decision fatigue at the exact moment someone is already vulnerable.

What I learned

Light exploratory research surfaced three patterns:

  • People struggle to name what they feel: “I feel off,” “I don’t know what’s wrong.”
  • Resources feel scattered: there’s no clear entry point.
  • Simplicity is essential: overwhelmed people won’t engage with complex interfaces.

Design approach

A guided check-in as the front door

Open the app, answer a quick emotional check-in, get suggested tools, start an exercise. One clear path.

Personalized suggestions

Breathing exercises, journaling prompts and grounding techniques matched to the check-in.

A library organized by need

Resources grouped by emotional need, not by content type.

Calm by design

Soft colors, large readable type, minimal steps and distraction-free layouts.

Learnings

Designing for emotional wellbeing means prioritizing simplicity and trust. People engage when the experience feels guided, asks little of them, and offers tools that match how they feel.
